Chapter Officers
The following
faculty members serve on the Executive Board of the UCLA Chapter of
the AAUP.
President
Susanne Lohmann (Political Science)

Susanne Lohmann is professor of political science and policy studies,
director of the Center for Governance, and founding faculty member of
the Interdisciplinary Degree Program on Human Complex Systems at UCLA.
Professor Lohmann has published extensively on collective action and
central banking. Her current research interests include the ethics,
governance, administration, and political oversight of
human complex systems such as research universities, academic health
centers, and intelligence agencies. She is completing a book titled
How Universities Think: The Hidden Work of a Complex Institution.
Vice-President
William McDonald (Film & TV)

Professor William
McDonald of the Department of Film, Television and Digital Media is
a cinematographer whose numerous credits include both documentary and
dramatic films. Bill began his work at UCLA in 1995 as a Visiting Assistant
Professor and was tenured in 1998 as Head of Cinematography. In 1997
the UCLA Academic Senate Committee on Teaching honored Bill with the
Distinguished Teaching Award for his success in the classroom, the first
member of the film production faculty to receive this award. In Academic
Year 2004-2005, Bill served as Chair of the UCLA Graduate Council, the
Academic Senate body that oversees graduate education policy on the
UCLA campus.

Phillip Bonacich
is a Professor of Sociology. He has long been concerned
with issues of academic freedom and in protecting faculty rights. He
has
been chair of the Academic Freedom and Privilege and Tenure committees
here
at UCLA.
Treasurer
Jan de Leeuw (Statistics)

Jan de Leeuw got his PhD from the University of Leiden in 1973. He became
Professor of Data Theory in Leiden in 1978. He moved to UCLA in 1987,
where he became Professor of Psychology and Mathematics. His main activity
over the next ten years was to establish a Department of Statistics.
The Department was established in 1998, with him as Founding Chair.
He became Professor of Statistics, later Distinguished Professor of
Statistics, at that time. He currently still chairs the Department.
