UCLA Chapter
of the AAUP

Los Angeles, California

[The] conception of a university as an ordinary business venture, and of academic teaching as a purely private employment, manifests also a radical failure to apprehend the nature of the social function discharged by the professional scholar. . . .it is in the public interest that the professorial office should be one both of dignity and of independence.

"1915 Declaration of Principles on Academic Freedom and Academic Tenure," AAUP Bulletin, vol.1, part 1, (December 1915).

Welcome to the Homepage of the UCLA Chapter of the American Association of University Professors

The Chapter's purpose is to advocate on behalf of UCLA faculty members, and advance the principles of academic freedom, shared governance, and due process, that are the traditional concerns of the AAUP. Membership in the chapter is open to all faculty at UCLA. The national and state websites of the AAUP provide a wealth of information and resources for faculty and we urge you to visit those sites.

Membership in the Association is critical to supporting the profession both "at home" and throughout the rest of the country. In addition, members receive a subscription to the AAUP's bi-monthly journal, Academe, and are eligible for a wide range of discounted insurance policies and other Affinity Program benefits.
