Who We Are

The San Diego Faculty Association (SDFA) is a voluntary membership organization of Senate faculty. Since the Faculty Senate is state-funded, it is barred from direct political lobbying. The SDFA provides Senate faculty with an independent political arm.

The SDFA is a member of the Council of University of California Faculty Associations (CUCFA) which coordinates the advocacy work done on behalf of UC Senate faculty by the various campus Faculty Associations. As part of CUCFA, the SDFA participates in consultations with the UC Office of the President over proposed changes to systemwide UC policies that affect Senate faculty. Recent subjects of consultation have included: the UC Retirement Plan, Health Insurance benefits, Salary parity with our "Comparison 8," Conflict of Interest and Outside Activities policies, Incompetence, as well as Intellectual Property and Copyright issues.

The SDFA became a chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) in the fall of 2002.
