Schedule:

Tentative Schedule and Program

9:45am - 10:15am -- Coffee & Pastries/Registration (Bijou Auditorium)

10:30am - 12:00am -- Choose 1 of 2 workshops
(Cafes A & B)

  1. California Labor Law and Bargaining Rights - led by Michael Mauer, Esq., Director of AAUP's National Department of Organizing & Services
  2. Mobilizing Faculty: Chapter Development and Member Recruitment

12:00pm - 12:30pm -- Business Meeting
(Bijou Auditorium)

In the interest of efficient time management, registrants will be emailed meeting reports (budget, membership, etc.) in advance and copies of those reports will be provided to all attendees during the morning registration session. This should eliminate the need for oral reporting (except perhaps allocating some time for questions about the reports) to ensure that we can accomplish all of our business.

12:30pm - 1:30pm -- Catered Luncheon
(Cafeteria)

1:45pm - 2:30pm -- Keynote Address:
"Organizing around the Spellings Commission"
(Bijou Auditorium)

California Faculty Association leader, Susan Meisenhelder, will discuss ongoing federal and state attempts to standardize higher education, corporatize colleges and universities, and diminish shared governance and faculty control.   She will also suggest how faculty might organize to address the Spellings Commission Report.

2:45pm - 4:15pm -- Choose 1 of 2 Workshops
(Cafes A & B)

  1. Strengthening Lobby Efforts through the California Conference - led by David Rubiales, Chair, California Conference Government Relations Committee
  2. Uniting Faculty: Mobilizing and Improving Working Conditions for Contingent Faculty
